This week Zimbabwe Digital News continues with our coverage of some of the 133 political parties that are contesting the 2018 general election on July 30.
This is what Innocent Ndibali, the leader of the Zimbabwe Economic Freedom Fighters said:
Who is Zimbabwe EFF and how did it come into being?
EFF Zim is a young people driven organisation fighting for economic freedom emancipation.
What is the idea behind the Zimbabwe EFF?
Zimbabwe Economic Freedom Fighters is a political organisation founded by the ordinary young people of Zimbabwe who are the victims of circumstances of stolen land, unfair distribution land by Mugabe regime, trudged dignity, and humiliation of our people as a result of cruelty of decades colonialism and also as a result of corruption by leaders of our people.
We assert that the political independence which was attained in 1980 in our country has not been complete and could not be complete without the economic freedom of our people.
We have a carefully thought out philosophy and ideology offering a mass movement of radical democrats who seek a radical transformation of the lives of the people of Zimbabwe through engaging in strategic policies designed to fix the economy by economically empowering our people as a prerequisite to any change.
We have laid down sound policies on land ownership, reviving the economy, rebuilding our healthcare infrastructure among other key areas of economic transformation.
EFF was also formed to correct the mistakes that were born out of land invasion that was pioneered by the regime of the then president of the country and Zanu (PF) Mr Mugabe. You will realise that quiet a number of farms were distributed amongst Mugabe cronies with each of them get more than one farm.
As a result we realised that we need a political movement that will correct this greediness. Our motto is one family (man) one farm. We are against the sytems of more farms to the ruling elite as we want every Zimbabwean to benefit from land as all of them participated direct or indirect in the liberation struggle of that country. This will then lead to success of our economic freedom.
What are the challenges and success of the Zimbabwe EFF?
Like any other political party in the country we are having challenges when it comes to resources. You will realise that we have never been part of the opposition parties that were anti-establishment of disgraced dictator former president Robert Mugabe. So we were not advantaged through looting donor funds and having it easily in lobbying people and orienting them into our ideas as such we are using funds from our pockets and it is challenging but we will never give up.
We have as well managed to conscioutise people into understanding and accepting our presence in the political landscape in the country. We also created a relationship with former freedom fighters of the liberation struggle and this is a milestone for us as they will see their dream of land distributed to every Zimbabwean equal through us.
Can you say you are happy with direction taken by Zimbabwe EFF and why?
I am pleased with the direction we are taking because re-distributing the redistributed land will see us attaining our major goal of having empowered our people conomical. We need every Zimbabwean to have land and people are buying into our policy of one family, one farm this will then mean our people are free economical as economic freedom comes from land ownership. EFF works with the ordinary and the poor to demand change and to transform lives of many and not for only the few.
In the history of Zimbabwe, we are a political party formed by the young, ordinary and poor people of Zimbabwe. We are a political party seeking to transform the lives of all Zimbabweans of all political creed, regardless of race, colour, sexual orientation or tribal identity. We are fighters for all.
What are the targets of Zimbabwe EFF and any timeline to achieve them?
Our motto says much. We need each family to have one farm and this is a life time battle that we are engaged in and we will make sure that we achieve it through conscitising masses across the country on the importance of land ownership and making sure each family has one farm.
How is EFF aiming to achieve its targets?
We want every citizen to partake in our efforts no matter which party they belong to.
We need economic freedom for our person that is our mantra and as we said earlier on that will be achieved by taking away farms from those with multiple farms.
Any expectations on the upcoming elections?
We are part and parcel of the People’s Rainbow Coalition (PRC) led by Joice Mujuru of National People’s Party (NPP) and we hope people will identify and embrace our manifesto as a collective. So whatever efforts or thinking that I have they are aligned to our coalition grouping. As EFF we will only engage in elections possible 2023 for now we are still nurturing our baby.
What is your stand on President Mnangagwa’s government?
We are pleased with the continuous call for peace and unity of people that the current government is preaching. We are however urging them to see to it that everything they are promising is implemented and achieved. We need a united country to revive our country. We also hope that the government will fight and arrest corruption without fail.
How will the results of the upcoming election will influence your way forward
Our membership is still growing; let us remember that things are slow now as the country is gearing up for elections. However, we are confident that with time we will be one of the biggest and relevant parties in our country.
If you are to look at our party and PRC we offer a different vision of change which other parties do not offer. Our vision and focus is on radical economic transformation of the economy.
This could be done by addressing and revamping our infrastructure, carrying out a national auditing of sovereign wealth, radically fighting corruption, rebuilding our healthcare system and restoration of the dignity of our people. We bring real change. Others talk about change for the sake of it yet they have been there for many years and have never implemented changes to anything to better the lives our people.
We represent new change; we offer new direction and offer radical economic transformation in our lifetime.
Please accept our sincere gratitude to the indefatigable CIC comrade Julius Malema for his inspirational leadership and also would like to extend admiration to the entire leadership of the EFF in many African countries such as CIC Emmanuel Gonquoi of Liberia, CIC Marvis Lyuna of Nigeria for gallantly championing the cause for the economic emancipation of the people of Liberia, Nigeria and Africa. We say to them, comrades, count on our solidarity in all your endeavours and we hope for the same, we save the same people who are all sons and daughters of the soil of Africa!
